We continued to seek clarification from the provider to validate evidence found. We requested the provider send us additional evidence after our inspection in relation to training, staff recruitment and auditing processes. We contacted seven healthcare professionals to find out their experiences of working with this provider.
With a blend of stylish furnishing and accessible facilities, Windmill Lodge aims to encourage independence and choice, allowing residents to make the most out of each day. Our closest station is Brixton, with overland South Eastern services as well as the Underground. We are also a short bus ride from Clapham Junction mainline station, with national rail connections. We believe that building a tight-knit community brings peace of mind, harmony and quality of life to all. All of our bedrooms have en-suites and some have views over our landscaped gardens complete with a water feature. Residents are encouraged to personalise their own room with treasured photographs, ornaments, belongings and small items of furniture if they wish, to create a familiar place in which to spend time.

Birkdale Tower Lodge is the landmark care home in the Southport area, offering a blend of luxury living facilities with first-rate hospitality and care. The staff of all our care teams is selected for their friendly, professional and caring qualities. Our aim is to create an atmosphere of harmony where residents can really feel comfortable in their home.
Although a few people told us that staff were in a rush sometimes, there were enough staff to meet people’s care needs as necessary. Staff had the necessary support and equipment to effectively manage risks in relation to COVID-19 and hygiene requirements. Situated in the seaside town of Lytham St Annes, Windmill Lodge is currently being constructed to offer dignified residential, dementia, and nursing care services to meet a range of needs. Our dementia care suites are specially designed to create a safe and engaging environment for people living with dementia. They include themed communal areas to provide interest and enjoyment, clear door numbers and memory boxes outside each bedroom for ease of orientation.

We have not found evidence that we need to reassess the rating at this stage. My mother moved in about 4 weeks ago and her move went without stress. The staff have been friendly, attentive, caring and professional.

Individual needs were considered to ensure effective care delivery, including the activities people wanted to take part in. Staff were aware and supported people with their communication needs. The understanding of her dementia needs has been excellent and lots of extra effort has been put into her care in order to accommodate her needs. Something I have really appreciated is the honesty of all staff, if my nan has had a tough night we are always informed, this gives such peace of mind.
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, some features mentioned below may be limited, for example; visiting our care home, as well as some entertainment and events. Events in the home took place to encourage and support people’s diverse care needs.

About the service Windmill Lodge Care Home is a care home providing personal and nursing care for up to 93 people. At the time of our inspection, there were 85 people using the service. The service supported older people living with dementia and nursing needs. The home is arranged over three floors, each with their own separate adapted facilities. Dementia nursing care is typically for those who require more intensive support and monitoring from medically trained professionals.

They are always on hand even when I phone just to ask how my Mum is doing, nothing is too much trouble and I know that I made the right choice when I chose Athena. My Mum is in a pleasant environment where she is well looked after. So a big thank you to all the staff at the lodge, your efforts are appreciated.
